Indonesia Strategic and Defence Studies

Indonesia Strategic and Defence Studies (ISDS) is a research group of experts and journalists that focuses on issues of strategy and defence in the country, with the chief aim of disseminating information to the public.

ISDS, formerly known as Jakarta Defence Studies (JDS), was formed in November 2019. To reach a broader audience, JDS evolved into ISDS in October 2022. ISDS promotes the study and discussion of defence and military-related issues in order to raise awareness about the importance of defence and professional militaries.

ISDS has a wide network in the defence community, one that includes military officers, members of parliament, academics, members of think tanks, and individuals within private and state-owned companies. That network is demonstrated by the range of representatives of institutions and speakers who participate in ISDS events, including individuals from Indonesia Defence University, Synergy Policies, Gojek, Universitas Paramadina, Universitas Indonesia, Lab 45, Rajaratnam Strategic and International Studies (RSIS) Singapore, Pusat Studi Air Power Indonesia, PT Pindad, PT Dahana, and PT PAL. To be sure, such events receive significant publicity in Indonesian media.
